Pregnancy: Week 23

Baby: The size of an ear of corn or a cantaloupe, about 11.4 inches long and 1.1 pounds.

Weight: Gained about two pounds over the course of this week, three pounds total gained for pregnancy.

Maternity Clothes: I'll probably take this question off soon since it's pretty redundant. I do still have some regular tops I can still wear, mainly tanks and long-sleeved tees that I wear under maternity sweaters, but everything else is maternity these days.

Boy or Girl: Boy!

Belly Button In or Out: I'm adding this question since my belly button is definitely flattening out a lot the past few weeks and I'm curious to see if/when it pops.

Wedding Ring On or Off: I'm adding this one too, since I'm curious to see if I start having any swelling as I get closer to the third trimester. So far I haven't had any swelling and I haven't had any problems with my rings fitting.

Cravings: The only cravings I really have at times are still for chicken and veggies.

Aversions: Still avoiding anything really spicy, tomato-based sauces, and garlic, and anything greasy/fried.

Exercise: I didn't do so hot this week, mainly because I just didn't manage my time very well.

Symptoms: My fatigue seems to be lessening a bit, so maybe I'm finally getting the second trimester energy surge I read so much about when I started the second trimester. I'm definitely starting to feel bigger and I've had a couple of people ask when I'm due, so I'm clearly starting to look obviously pregnant instead of just bloated. The baby's movements have changed a little. Instead of long stretches with no movement and then flurries of lots of activity with some almost-painful kicks, now I have more rolling gentle movements on and off all the time.

Anything Noteworthy: I've started working on our registry and doing lots of research online about car seats and strollers in particular. That's going to be the toughest decision for me because of the safety issue (and the expense too.) Also trying to pick out a glider and having a bit of a hard time with that.

What to Look Forward to Next Week: Working more on our registry, planning the little guy's room, picking up my workouts.

Any suggestions on car seats, strollers or gliders? Or any other baby gear, for that matter? I've been reading lots of reviews but I can always use more advice from "real" moms.

  1. yay a boy! congratulations.. i have two of them and they are such intriguing creatures..
we have had all Graco car seats.. as for the stroller we didn't need a jogger and while i had my heart set on one of those travel systems they were just too bulky for our then apartment. A friend of ours lent us a frame and we used it for both boys until they were one and it work our perfectly.. we worry excessively when it is our first child but lesson learnt most often the fancy stuff is not needed. I don't know about gliders.. we had a rocking chair which hardly got any use but I would recommend a baby carrier of some sort.. we were big on the baby bjorn. Good Luck.

  2. Thanks for the advice, Hena! I know you're right about not needing all the fancy stuff, but it's so overwhelming when you're shopping and everything is geared toward convincing you that you need all the fancy stuff, lol. I really appreciate it when moms reassure me that's not the case. :)
